Free range baby gears started out about 6 years ago, around the time close friends started making babies and I started looking for goodies to give said small new humans. It turned out that the local shops stocked boring pinks and blues and not much else.

I'd just finished a degree in Anthropology and Religious studies, and I'd dabbled in graphic design at Uni. But rather than wanting to keep my head in books and research, I was obsessed with colours and making things. Oh and a rather out of control op shopping habit, specializing in fabric hoarding.

In 2007 my best friend and I joined an art collective in Wellington and I got a studio space and room to store my growing fabric stash. It was great to get room in my bedroom again, no longer finding pins in my bed!

Free range baby grew and grew. It turned out others liked to dress their small folk in fun colourful threads, and many were rejecting buying cheap clothing made under poor working conditions in far off lands.

I had an amazing time running free range baby as a full time gig from 2007-2011 when my son was born. I've spent most of the last 3 years dressing the little guy and coming up with lots of exciting new ideas, but mostly having to bottle them up, as I've dedicated my time to my family.

I have been starting things up again in 2014, with Neko now a big kindy boy, I have time to sew and I'm loving it. I have so many new ideas for free range baby and I'm so excited to get things into production after years of planning in my head.
